About This Trek
One Day Horse Riding Trip in Kathmandu Valley
A one-day horse riding trip in Kathmandu Valley is a wonderful choice for travelers who have an extra day in Kathmandu and are looking for a unique way to experience the valley beyond the usual sightseeing tours. This enjoyable day adventure combines horse riding, beautiful landscapes, countryside scenery, peaceful natural surroundings, and panoramic views of Kathmandu Valley. It is especially suitable for travelers who love horses, outdoor activities, nature, and exploring less-crowded places around Kathmandu.
The trip has been carefully designed by Desire Adventures to provide a memorable and enjoyable horse-riding experience without requiring several days of travel. Whether you are an experienced rider or simply looking for a new adventure during your stay in Nepal, this day trip offers an excellent opportunity to enjoy Kathmandu from a different perspective.
Your day begins with a convenient pickup from your hotel in Thamel or another location within Kathmandu Valley. From there, we drive to the horse farm, where you will meet the horses and our local horse-riding team. Before beginning the main ride, you will have some time to become familiar with your horse and practice riding around the horse farm. Our team will also provide basic guidance and ensure that you are comfortable with the horse before heading onto the trail.

Once you are ready, we begin riding toward the northwestern side of Kathmandu Valley. The route gradually takes you away from the busy city streets and into quieter surroundings. Along the way, you will ride through a mixture of paved roads, gravel sections, local settlements, green fields, and countryside landscapes. The changing scenery makes the journey enjoyable, as you can experience both the traditional lifestyle of the valley and its natural beauty while riding on horseback.
Jhanda Park – One of the Highlights of the Trip
One of the main attractions of this horse-riding adventure is Jhanda Park, located around the Devistan area of Kathmandu. The Park is a beautiful viewpoint and an excellent place to pause, relax, and enjoy the spectacular scenery of Kathmandu Valley.
From Jhanda Park, you can enjoy wide panoramic views across Kathmandu Valley, with the densely populated city gradually blending into green hills, farmland, villages, and surrounding mountain landscapes. On a clear day, the elevated viewpoint provides an impressive perspective of the valley and allows you to appreciate how Kathmandu is surrounded by hills on almost every side. The contrast between the busy urban areas below and the peaceful natural surroundings around the viewpoint makes Jhanda Park a particularly enjoyable stop during the horse ride.

The viewpoint is also a peaceful place to take photographs and enjoy a short break. You can sit back, have a drink or a light snack, take pictures with your horse, and simply enjoy the fresh air and beautiful scenery. For many travelers, this is one of the most memorable parts of the journey because it offers a chance to slow down and appreciate Kathmandu’s landscape away from the busy tourist areas.
After enjoying the views from Jhanda Park, we continue the horse ride toward Baudeshwor Temple and its nearby waterfall. This section of the route offers a pleasant combination of cultural and natural attractions. You can take some time to explore the surroundings of the temple, enjoy the peaceful atmosphere, and visit the waterfall before continuing the ride.
From Baudeshwor, the journey continues toward Tokha Bhutkhel, another enjoyable location for horse riding. The open ground provides plenty of space where you can spend quality time with your horse and, depending on your riding experience and local conditions, enjoy a faster ride. It is a great place to relax, have fun, and experience the freedom of riding in a more open environment.
After spending time at Tokha Bhutkhel, we begin our return journey toward the horse farm. The overall horse-riding experience generally takes around 5–6 hours, depending on the pace of the ride, stops, and time spent enjoying the viewpoints and attractions along the route.
Once the horse-riding journey is completed, we will arrange your return transportation by private vehicle or taxi and drop you back at your hotel in Kathmandu.
This one-day horse riding trip is an ideal option for travelers who want to experience something different during their stay in Kathmandu. Rather than spending the entire day visiting crowded tourist sites, you can enjoy the open countryside, ride through local landscapes, visit a peaceful temple and waterfall, and experience the impressive panoramic views from Jhanda Park.
With careful planning, friendly local support, and a focus on a comfortable and enjoyable experience, Desire Adventures is pleased to offer this unique horse-riding adventure as a memorable way to explore the natural and cultural beauty surrounding Kathmandu Valley.
