Full Itinerary

1

Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, a representative from Desire Adventures will welcome you outside the arrival terminal and transfer you to your hotel in a private deluxe car.

After checking into your 5-star luxury accommodation, you will have the remainder of the day at your leisure to rest, refresh, and unwind in your elegant surroundings. In the evening, we will conduct a comprehensive pre-trip briefing to review the trail logistics, inspect your gear, and discuss essential safety and high altitude protocols.

Insider Guide: Take advantage of this first evening to finalize your packing. If you need to rent or purchase high-quality down jackets or sleeping bags, our team can introduce you to trusted premium gear shops in Thamel that provide authentic equipment, saving you from lower-grade imitations.

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu
2

Following breakfast at your hotel, the day is dedicated to final trail preparations. To manage air traffic congestion in Kathmandu during peak trekking seasons (April to May and October to November), flights to Lukla operate out of Manthali Airport in Ramechhap. You will embark on a scenic 4-to-5-hour drive to Ramechhap in a private car or jeep, tracing the BP Highway alongside terraced farmlands and rural villages.

During the off-season months (June to September and December to March), you will instead bypass this drive and transfer directly to Kathmandu’s domestic airport for a direct flight.

Insider Guide: For the peak season drive to Ramechhap, we recommend packing a small travel pillow and keeping your noise-canceling headphones in your daypack. The private vehicle ensures maximum road comfort, but the highway features numerous sharp curves through the hills.

Day 02: Trek Preparation and Drive to Ramechhap
3

Your morning begins with a short, scenic flight from Ramechhap to Lukla, offering sweeping aerial views of the eastern Himalayan ranges. Upon landing at the Tenzing-Hillary Airport, we clear the local check post to obtain your regional trekking card.

After organizing our porter team, the trek officially begins along the Dudh Koshi River valley. The trail descends gradually through traditional agricultural hamlets and pine forests until we reach the riverside village of Phakding, where you will check into the premium Mountain Lodges of Nepal property.

Insider Guide: When checking into the luxury lodge in Phakding, request your complimentary hot towel immediately upon arrival to refresh your face and hands. Your guide will also arrange for warm washing water to be brought to your room to rinse away the trail dust before dinner.

4

This is one of the most physically demanding days of the approach. We follow the banks of the Dudh Koshi River, crossing high suspension bridges, including the iconic Hillary Bridge in Dovan. At Monjo, our team handles the logistics to secure your Sagarmatha National Park entry permit.

After a hot lunch break at Jorsalle, we cross the final high suspension bridge and begin a steep, two-hour continuous uphill climb through pine forests to reach Namche Bazaar, the historical trading capital of the Sherpa people. Your evening is spent in the upscale comfort of the Mountain Lodges of Nepal.

Insider Guide: The final climb up the Namche hill is your first significant exposure to higher elevations. Do not attempt to match the speed of the porters. Your guide will set a slow, rhythmic pace. Ensure your integrated electric blanket or hot water bag is prepared by the lodge staff immediately after dinner to keep your core temperature stable.

Day 04: Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar
5

To promote proper cardiovascular adaptation to the altitude, we observe a structured acclimatization day. We conduct an active morning hike up the ridge to the Hotel Everest View, where you can savor an espresso on the terrace while taking in panoramic views of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Ama Dablam.

We then descend through the traditional villages of Khumjung and Khunde to observe local Sherpa culture. The afternoon is yours to stroll through Namche, visit the Sherpa Museum, or relax at a local bakery.

Insider Guide: Even if you feel fully energized, do not skip the morning acclimatization hike. Reaching the higher elevation of the Everest View Hotel and then returning to sleep at Namche follows the medical directive of climbing high and sleeping low, which significantly accelerates your red blood cell production for the days ahead.

Day 05: Acclimatization Day in Namche Bazaar
6

The trail exits Namche along a scenic contour path offering sweeping views of Ama Dablam, Thamserku, and Kantega. We descend steadily to the riverbed at Phungithanga for a freshly prepared lunch. Following lunch, we tackle a challenging, two-hour zigzag uphill trail through rhododendron and pine forests to reach the ridge top.

Here, we pause to tour the historic Tengboche Monastery, the oldest spiritual center in the Khumbu region. After exploring the monastery grounds, a gentle 30-minute downhill walk through the trees brings us to the luxury accommodation at Rivendell Lodge.

Insider Guide: The descent into Phungithanga can be hard on the knees, while the subsequent climb up to Tengboche is heavily dusty. Wear a lightweight neck buff over your mouth and nose during the uphill section to prevent inhaling dust, which is the primary contributor to altitude-induced throat irritation.

7

We begin the morning by passing through the upper village of Pangboche and crossing the final major suspension bridge of the route. The trail climbs gradually into the open, windy Orsho Valley, where the forest completely disappears, replaced by alpine shrubs and scrub juniper.

We stop for a substantial lunch in Samare to maintain your energy levels. After lunch, a steady, gradual uphill trek brings us to Dingboche, a traditional summer settlement enclosed by ancient stone walls. You will check into your top-notch luxury lodge to rest and acclimate.

Insider Guide: As we cross the tree line today, the wind in the Orsho Valley can cause temperatures to drop rapidly despite clear sunshine. Keep your windproof shell jacket easily accessible at the top of your daypack so you can layer up the moment the alpine winds pick up.

Day 07: Trek from Deboche to Dingboche
8

This is your second mandatory acclimatization day, critical before advancing beyond the 5,000meter threshold. In the morning, we complete a focused acclimatization hike up to the Nangkar View Point. This ascent offers an exceptional 360-degree vista of Island Peak, the South Face of Lhotse, and the world's fifth-highest peak, Makalu. After descending to the lodge for lunch, the afternoon is reserved for leisure. You can visit the iconic 4410 Cafe to enjoy fresh pastries and warm beverages while relaxing in a peaceful mountain setting.

Insider Guide: Use your adjustable trekking poles on the descent from Nangkar View Point to maintain balance on the loose gravel. In the afternoon, prioritize complete physical rest in the lodge dining room and increase your fluid intake; drinking plenty of hot water or tea is vital to counteract dehydration at 4,410 meters.

Day 08: Acclimatization Day at Dingboche
9

The trail heads north, climbing gradually along the high alpine plateau toward Thukla, where we pause for an early lunch. Afterward, we face the most strenuous portion of the day: a steep, 90-minute climb up the Thukla Pass. At the summit of the pass, we spend time at the emotional Everest Memorial, dedicated to climbers and Sherpas who lost their lives on the high peaks. From the memorial, the path eases into a gentle incline, tracing the lateral moraine of the Khumbu Glacier into the high-altitude settlement of Lobuche.

Day 09: Trek from Dingboche to Lobuche
10

This is the pinnacle day of your trek. We depart Lobuche early, navigating the rough edge of the Khumbu Glacier for approximately three hours to reach Gorak Shep, the final outstation. After a quick lunch and dropping our heavy daypack gear, we begin the demanding round-trip trek to Everest Base Camp.

The trail weaves across rugged glacial debris and moraine ridges. Upon arriving at Base Camp, you can celebrate your achievement and take photos by the iconic entry sign. After absorbing the views of the Khumbu Icefall, we retrace our steps back to Gorak Shep for the night.

Insider Guide: The terrain between Gorak Shep and Base Camp is constantly shifting due to glacial movement. Stay directly behind your guide at all times to avoid loose scree zones. Because the air at Base Camp contains only half the oxygen of sea level, maintain a steady, unhurried pace and drink water continuously.

Day 10: Trek from Lobuche to Gorak Shep and Visit Everest Base Camp
11

We wake before dawn to ascend Kala Patthar, the ultimate vantage point of the trek. The steep, two-hour push rewards you with an unobstructed, 360-degree sunrise view over Mount Everest, Nuptse, and Lhotse.

After capturing the view, we descend to Gorak Shep for a warm breakfast, pack our equipment, and begin a long, continuous downhill march out of the extreme alpine zone. The trail drops back through Lobuche and Thukla, leading into the wide, peaceful valley of Pheriche, where you will check into the comfortable Hotel Edelweiss.

Insider Guide: The pre-dawn climb to Kala Patthar is the coldest segment of the trip, with temperatures regularly dropping below -10 degrees Celsius. Wear all your available thermal layers, including your heavy down jacket and windproof shell. Store your camera and smartphone batteries inside your inner clothing pockets close to your body heat to prevent them from draining instantly.

Day 11: Hike to Kala Patthar 5545m and Trek to Pheriche 4200m
12

Today covers a significant distance as we retrace our route down the valley. We exit Pheriche, pass through Pangboche, and arrive at the Tengboche Monastery. From the ridge, we descend sharply through the rhododendron forests to the suspension bridges at Phunki Tenga.

After crossing the river, we complete a steady, 90-minute uphill climb on a well-graded path. The final stretch from Kyanjoma to Namche Bazaar is a gentle, relaxing walk, leading you back to the familiar luxury comfort of the Mountain Lodges of Nepal property.

Insider Guide: While your lungs will welcome the denser air at 3,440 meters, the long downhill stretches can put heavy pressure on your quadriceps and knees. Keep your trekking poles extended slightly longer than usual to absorb your body weight on the descents, preventing knee fatigue./blockquote>

13

This is the concluding day of your physical trek. We begin with a steep, controlled descent down the Namche hill to cross the highest suspension bridge over the Dudh Koshi River. The trail then flattens out as we retrace our steps through Monjo and stop for a relaxed lunch break in Phakding.

After lunch, we tackle the final geographical hurdle of the journey: a steady, 45-minute uphill climb up Lukla Hill. Upon arriving in Lukla, you will check into your luxury lodge for a well-deserved evening of rest.

Insider Guide: Ensure your hiking boots are laced securely around your ankles before leaving Namche to prevent your toes from sliding forward and bruising on the steep downhill stone steps. This evening is the customary time to distribute tips to your porter team as a direct thank-you for their dedication on the trail.

14

After breakfast at the lodge, you will take a short 5-minute walk to the Lukla airstrip for your return flight to Ramechhap. Upon landing, a private jeep will be waiting to drive you back to Kathmandu.

We will make a few planned stops along the highway for lunch and restroom breaks, allowing you to stretch comfortably. Once in Kathmandu, you will check back into your 5-star luxury hotel. In the evening, a representative from Desire Adventures will host you for a special farewell dinner at a premium restaurant to celebrate your success.

Insider Guide: Flight schedules out of Lukla are highly weather-dependent. If your morning flight is delayed due to mountain fog, remain patient at the airport terminal; our office tracks the weather windows in real-time to secure the very first available departure slot for our luxury clients.

15

This marks the final day of your luxury holiday in Nepal. You can enjoy a relaxed breakfast at your 5-star hotel and utilize the morning for last-minute packing or souvenir shopping around Kathmandu. According to your international flight schedule, our representative will meet you at the hotel lobby with a private deluxe car to transfer you directly to Tribhuvan International Airport, ensuring you arrive exactly three hours prior to your departure for a smooth check-in.

Insider Guide: Ensure that you have separated any lithium-ion power banks or camera batteries from your main checked luggage and placed them into your carry-on hand luggage, as Nepalese airport security protocols require these items to go through the cabin scanners.

Understanding the Difficulty Level and Elevated Comfort

high-altitude-insurance-requirements

While the trail covers the exact same iconic suspension bridges, rugged glacial moraines, and steady uphill climbs as the classic route, the luxury version significantly reduces the physical toll on your body.

We classify this trek as moderate. The daily walking durations remain between 3 to 8 hours, and the thin alpine air above 4,000 meters still requires physical stamina. However, because you return each evening to a premium lodge featuring a heated common dining room, hot towels upon arrival, warm washing water, and high-quality à la carte dining, your body recovers twice as fast. This maximum focus on nightly rest and optimal nutrition gives you the absolute best advantage for a safe, successful, and deeply rewarding journey to Base Camp.

Training, Physical Prep & High-Altitude Comfort:

reality-of-trekking-in-nepal

Reaching the foot of Mount Everest at 5,364 meters and climbing to Kala Patthar at 5,550 meters are incredible achievements. In a luxury trek, our goal is to prepare your body so that you can conquer these heights while feeling strong, energized, and comfortable every day.

Let's look at how we can prepare your body and how our luxury amenities keep you safe.

Physical Preparation Timeline

To ensure you enjoy the journey rather than just endure it, we recommend starting a targeted training routine 8 to 12 weeks before your trek.

  • Cardiovascular Endurance: Build your lung capacity by swimming, cycling, or running 3 to 4 times a week for 45 to 60 minutes.
  • Strength and Core: Focus on your legs to prepare for long downhill descents. Include squats, lunges, and step-ups into your workouts.
  • Incline Training: The most specific preparation is walking uphill. Spend weekends hiking local trails with a weighted daypack, or use a treadmill or stairmaster at the gym.

Premium High-Altitude Comfort and Safety Strategy

At 5,000 meters, each breath contains about 50% less oxygen than at sea level. While your body must do the natural work of adapting, our luxury package is structurally designed to minimize altitude stress.

Luxury Amenity How It Assists Your Acclimatization
Two Acclimatization Days Spent actively hiking high and sleeping low in Namche and Dingboche to naturally trigger red blood cell production.
Nightly Thermal Control Heated blankets prevent your body from wasting metabolic energy just trying to stay warm during freezing alpine nights.
Advanced Hydration Constant daily access to clean hot water protects your throat from the dry mountain air and prevents the famous Khumbu cough.
Daily Oximeter Checks Your guide monitors your oxygen saturation every evening to make data-driven decisions about your pacing and safety.

Frequently Asked

The primary difference is how your body gets to rest and recover each night. On a standard trek, you stay in basic, unheated teahouses with thin foam mattresses and shared, often outdoor, plumbing. On our luxury trek, you stay in premium boutique properties like the Mountain Lodges of Nepal (MLN) network and Hotel Edelweiss. Instead of freezing at night, you have access to integrated electric blankets or custom hot water bags. You get private en-suite bathrooms wherever the local infrastructure physically allows, fresh hot towels to wash away trail dust right when you arrive each afternoon, and multi-course à la carte meals prepared by trained chefs. We bridge the gap between rugged Himalayan exploration and high-end comfort.

This is purely a matter of seasonal aviation safety regulations in Nepal. During the peak trekking months of spring (April to May) and autumn (October to November), the Civil Aviation Authority diverts all Lukla flights to Manthali Airport in Ramechhap to avoid massive air traffic bottlenecks at Kathmandu's single runway. During these peak times, we provide a private deluxe car or jeep to take you on the 4-to-5-hour scenic drive to Ramechhap the day before your flight. During the off-season months (June to September and December to March), traffic eases up, and we fly you directly out of Kathmandu's domestic terminal, utilizing private airport car transfers on both ends.

The weather in the Himalayas is notoriously unpredictable, and Lukla’s runway requires clear visibility to operate safely. If morning fog or high winds cause flight delays, our luxury logistics team handles everything behind the scenes. If we are delayed in Ramechhap or Lukla, we secure accommodations at premium local properties while we wait for the first clear weather window. Because weather disruptions are a reality of mountain travel, we strongly advise booking your international flight home at least two or three days after your scheduled return to Kathmandu. Your mandatory travel insurance policy must also include robust trip cancellation and delay coverage.

Even though you are staying in luxury accommodations, the mountain trails themselves do not change. You will still be walking on the exact same rugged paths, suspension bridges, and steep glacial moraines as any other trekker. Daily trekking durations range from 3 to 8 hours, and we climb to a maximum altitude of 5,550 meters. We classify this trek as moderate. You do not need technical climbing experience, but you do need solid cardiovascular endurance. If you prepare by doing regular hiking, stair climbing, or aerobic workouts 8 to 12 weeks before departure, your legs will be in great shape. The real luxury on the trail is the unhurried, rhythmic pace our guides set to keep your heart rate stable.

You should never drink untreated tap water or river water in the mountains. To guarantee your absolute safety, our luxury package includes unlimited access to clean, eco-purified hot or cold drinking water every single day. At high altitudes, the air is incredibly dry, and your body loses moisture quickly just through breathing. Our guiding team will ensure you are drinking between three and four liters of fluid daily. We highly recommend bringing a insulated thermos flask; filling it with hot water before bed not only gives you something warm to sip through the night but prevents your water supply from freezing solid when temperatures drop below zero.

Dining on this luxury trek is a massive upgrade from standard trail food. Our partner lodges offer diverse à la carte menus that combine continental, Asian, and traditional Nepalese cuisine. You can expect fresh, high-quality ingredients and beautiful presentations. If you are vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, or have severe food allergies, our guides communicate directly with the lodge chefs every single morning to customize your meals. We also strictly enforce a vegetarian-first diet above Namche Bazaar. Because meat must be carried up the trails by porters without refrigeration, avoiding meat completely protects your digestive system from bugs that could cut your trek short.

Safety is our absolute priority, and we monitor your health proactively, not reactively. Every single evening in the heated lodge dining room, your guide will conduct a personalized wellness check. We carry a digital pulse oximeter to measure your resting heart rate and track your blood oxygen saturation levels daily. This data shows us exactly how well your body is adjusting to the changing altitude. Our itinerary also includes two built-in acclimatization days where we practice the medical directive of "climb high, sleep low" to safely stimulate your body's natural adaptation. If anyone shows signs of progressive Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS), we halt the ascent immediately, use preventative steps, or guide you safely down to a lower valley.

In the rare event of a severe medical emergency or advanced altitude sickness where immediate descent on foot is not ideal, we coordinate a rapid helicopter evacuation. Our guides carry satellite or local communication devices and are linked directly to our 24/7 Kathmandu operations office. We can mobilize a rescue helicopter to your exact location within hours, weather permitting. Because these emergency flights are highly specialized and expensive, we require all clients to possess a comprehensive travel insurance policy that explicitly covers emergency helicopter evacuation up to 6,000 meters.
